The ocean had always been my laboratory. Then it became my way forward.

After I lost my husband, I returned to the sea with my teenage sons to show them the beauty of life below. There, my breathing slowed as the water eased some of the heaviness.

The ocean I knew from my scientific work was under increasing stress — pushed beyond familiar ranges. But it was still alive, and still generating life.

What began as a way back into the living world became a search across sea, sky, and ice for what still holds — and what might still be helped. My forthcoming book is about that search.
